Foxwoods has recently begun a $700 million expansion that will include a new casino, 825 new hotel rooms, a theatre, spa, several restaurants and clubs. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2008 and is expected to create over 2,300 new permanent jobs. Mohegan Sun has announced a new $740 million expansion to include 1,000 hotel rooms, 115,000 SF of retail and new 64,000 SF casino. The project is anticipated to be complete in 2010 and add 1,500 jobs to the local economy. Other projects planned in the area include the $1.6 billion redevelopment of the Norwich State Hospital into a movie studio, theme parks, school of art and hotel space known as Utopia.
